Dear Subscribers:
I wish to inform you that this is the last Newsletter being published under my own signature. I am finally retiring as Chief Editor of SGI Europe, which remains the main information service of EDM Publications, the company that I founded in 1989, after a long career in journalism, to help decision-makers to improve their financial results by following the development of the market all over Europe and beyond. It’s been for me a challenging, exciting and successful journey that will continue under new management.
I´m handing over the editorial reins to Wolfgang Greiner, who will also continue to be in charge of its younger sister publication, The Outdoor Industry Compass, like in the past three years. Based out of Munich, Wolfgang has been working in the sports and outdoor industry for over 30 years as an editor and publisher. He will be able to rely on a competent, experienced and international editorial team for all of EDM’s publications. Based in France, I will continue to be involved until further notice as Editorial Consultant and as an occasional contributor.
I wish to express my gratitude to a good friend and former colleague, John Horan, for encouraging me to publish the European edition of his American newsletter, which he renamed then as Sporting Goods Intelligence. John retired a few weeks ago, after handing over the reins to one of his collaborators.
After launching SGI Europe 33 years ago in a market dominated by national “trade publications,” I and my team added in-depth market research reports on all the European countries as well as the BRICs. At the same time, we also launched dedicated business publications for the non-athletic footwear, outdoor and eyewear markets, all of which will continue under their newchief editors.
The handover of my functions follows my transfer of EDM Publications’ ownership and leadership two years ago to two younger entrepreneurs. I wish to express my gratitude to themfor the tremendous job that they have done in digitalizing this unique information service. The new owners, Krischan Hertle and Martin Koessler, have also developed many new useful reports and services, with even more exciting things to come! I think they deserve your ongoing support for the next chapter in EDM Publications’ journey and mission to help your companies to become more competitive and responsive to the needs of a rapidly changing market.
Thank you for your collaboration and your friendship over the last 33 years. I’ve known some of you even longer! Goodbye and good luck to all of you !
