Global textile specialist eVent Fabrics®, a provider of high-performance all-weather technologies, has launched alpineST, a groundbreaking new PFAS-free laminate solution for highly waterproof and breathable apparel.
With more than twenty-five years of experience developing high-performance waterproofing technologies, eVent Fabrics has now created a sustainable alternative to ePTFE. The innovative alpineST laminate collection is specifically designed for use in extreme conditions, such as high alpine environments, moto, or sailing in stormy weather. It consists of a polyolefin-based membrane combined with recycled fabrics. The C0-DWR coating completely dispenses with fluorine chemistry, without compromising the product’s long-term performance during the utilisation phase. This means that it retains its high waterproofness even after numerous washes. Tests show that the initial waterproofness of 25K still has a water column of 20K even after dozens of washes. With alpineST, eVent presents an innovative technology that combines maximum functionality and durability with a sustainable approach, and which stands out from other PFAS-free offerings on the market.

Two PFAS-free laminate technologies: eVEnt alpineST and eVent BIO
alpineST is eVent’s second PFAS-free laminate solution. In 2021, the company introduced eVent BIO, a sustainable plant and biomass-based waterproof technology for apparel, footwear and accessories. At the laminate technology’s core are highly renewable plant-based and biomass elements paired with smartly sourced or recycled face and backer fabrics finished with a high-performing CO DWR. The water- and windproof recyclable eVent BIO membrane has a reduced carbon footprint and is lightweight, tough, and flexible.
With its two laminate technologies, eVent alpineST and eVent BIO, the technology provider is paving the way for durable, highly functional apparel, footwear and accessories in a PFAS-free future. Both laminates are fluorine free and comply with European Union regulations as well as a growing number of US states requiring the elimination of PFAS chemicals from many consumer products.
